Loreto Pelayo Quintet
Loreto Pelayo Quintet
Loreto O. Pelayo Jr. is a pianist, guitarist, composer, arranger, and bandleader. A life-long listener of instrumental music, in his late-teens, he became a proponent of straight-ahead jazz due to the rich rhythmic and melodic language, improvisatory nature, and instrumental focus that the genre provides.
Loreto is deeply committed to learning and sharing the jazz tradition. His influences range from traditional to modern, and include Bud Powell, Red Garland, Charlie Parker, McCoy Tyner, John Coltrane, João Gilberto, Wes Montgomery, Pasquale Grasso, and Julian Lage.
Loreto has performed throughout Belize as a solo instrumentalist, bandleader, as well as a sideman. Aside from his work with the Loreto Pelayo Combo, he is also notable for being the guitarist on the opening of the J.Cas 'Intro' EP recording of Give it to Me (Interlude)
