Josh Lawrence is a Philadelphia trumpeter and GRAMMY-nominated artist, composer, bandleader, and educator living in Philadelphia where he is on faculty at the University of the Arts and Drexel University.
Lawrence is widely recognized as one of the leading voices in Philadelphia’s creative music scene. As a bandleader he has released multiple acclaimed recordings on Posi-Tone Records, and for more than a decade he has been a member of the celebrated Captain Black Big Band. As a collaborator he has performed with artists including Seal, Erykah Badu, and Philadelphia’s own Boyz II Men, working across the jazz tradition and the broader world of contemporary music.
Regularly performing on stages across the country, Lawrence brings that same spirit of collaboration and musical storytelling to Chris’ Jazz Cafe, creating a night that highlights Philadelphia’s deep musical community while inviting the audience directly into the experience. Special guests, audience requests, and a house band of standout local players ensure that every performance is unique.
We Get Requests is an engaging live music night led by Philadelphia trumpeter and GRAMMY-nominated artist Josh Lawrence. Each performance features Lawrence and a rotating trio of some of Philadelphia’s most respected musicians, with special guest artists joining the second set. Audience members can submit song requests in person or online between sets, shaping a spontaneous and memorable evening where the band brings those selections to life on stage.

Premier Tables:
The best seats in the house positioned directly in front of the performance stage (marked dark blue on the seating map).
Standard Tables:
Clear and unobstructed views of stage (marked purple on the seating map). A few tables have a partially obstructed view (marked light blue on the seating map).
Cocktail & Bar Area:
Seating at high-top tables and at the bar area available on a first come, first seated basis (marked green on the seating map). Tables may be shared for sold out shows. Two TV monitors with live video feed of the performance are conveniently located above the bar and cocktail areas.

Festival Seating:
Festival seating is our general admission ticket. The entire venue or a portion of the venue may be designated for festival admission. These tickets will guarantee you a seat for the show and you are free to sit anywhere in the venue based on a "first come, first seated" basis. This should also allow for larger groups to sit together.
