Ryan Hanseler Quartet

American pianist & composer Ryan Hanseler has been featured with top performing artists including Branford Marsalis, Herlin Riley, Wessel Anderson, Delfeayo Marsalis, Adonis Rose, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Jazzmeia Horn, Cyrille Aimee and more.

A former student of pianist Joey Calderazzo, Hanseler got his first big break subbing for Mr.Calderazzo in the Branford Marsalis Quartet. Several years later, he became a member of Delfeayo Marsalis’s Uptown Jazz Orchestra as well as the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra. A member of each band for several years, Hanseler eventually began touring with NOJO artistic director Adonis Rose in his septet. Additionally, around the same time, Hanseler began touring occasionally with vocalists Cyrille Aimee and Gabrielle Cavassa.

Hanseler also performs and tours with his own group, the Ryan Hanseler Trio + 1. Together, the group explores its own composition rooted in the history of New Orlean trad, the music of AFO, Thelonious Monk, and other paramount figures in the realm of Black American Music. Hanseler’s Trio+1 is best known for its work with vocalist Gabrielle Cavassa, who worked closely with Hanseler as an accompanist and arranger in her own group prior to joining the Joshua Redman Quintet.

Hanseler’s most recent album, FOUR, is a duo record featuring friends Ricardo Pascal, Nicholas Payton, Doyle Cooper and Ashlin Parker. Live at Snug!, his previously released album received the Off-Beat Top Fifty Artist award in New Orleans where it was recorded.

Currently, Ryan Hanseler is the pianist for the Navy Commodores Big Band in Washington D.C where he resides. He is a graduate of North Carolina Central University where he studied under the guidance of Dr.Ira Wiggins, Branford Marsalis and Joey Calderazzo
