George Burton’s Yule Log

George's holiday show features a dynamic rhythm section complemented by a string trio lead by violinist Diane Monroe, and sultry melodies from vocalist Nancy Harms. The harmonic and rhythmic exchange between this stellar lineup will find listeners singing and swinging right along.

With innovative, original arrangements of holiday standards such as "Christmas Time is Here," "The Holly and the Ivy," and "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy," among lesser-known catalogue classics such as "Little Altar Boy," "Some Children See Him," and the rhythmic "Fum-Fum-Fum," the group combines the best of the holiday spirit with nostalgia and mystery, while invigorating with swing and groove. As George explains, “I've always thought holiday music was much bigger than how we are used to hearing it. There are too many versions of holiday songs that make the [sub-]genre too commercial--losing the depth and feeling of the music itself and consequently, the mood of the season. It's a time when families get together and stories from the past year are told. I wanted to bring back the majesty of that feeling and not make it a 'jazz' project. So it's a blending of all of these musical styles to help get that feeling back."
